It's nice to meet you :)
My name is Anna Zimmerman
And I'm the leader of this one man band I call, Picnic Bookkeeping!
What brought me to bookkeeping?
I’d say a love for spreadsheets and a desperate attempt to get myself out of the cannabis industry in 2020. It was then that I weaseled my way into an Accounts Payable position at the headquarters of a large cannabis company I was working for, hoping to get myself out of the bro-infested production side of the business. I was lucky enough to get partnered up with a badass financial controller (shoutout to Brenda) who eventually trained me into the GL Accountant position. There, I learned the ins and outs of general ledger accounting, managing the books for five retail locations and a handful of other business entities.
As an artist and musician, I was soothed by the black and whiteness of accounting. I loved knowing that after pouring over two sets of data for the better part of an afternoon, I would know for certain, at the end of the day, whether it was right, or still wrong.
Fast forward to 2025 and I no longer wanted to commute to and from an office. I wanted to build a bookkeeping business that could support me long term, ensure I can be home for my family and have the flexibility to sustain my creative life. So, hello Picnic Bookkeeping LLC!
I’m so pleased to have the opportunity to work with folks from my community who are self-employed. Getting to know you, and your business, and understanding what I can take off your plate is one of my favorite parts of being a freelance bookkeeper. I’ve had so many jobs and creative entrepreneurial hustles over the years. I’ve been a truck driver, a back-line cook, a performing artist, a greeting card designer, a nanny, an illustrator, a cashier, a handyman, a farmer (the list goes on) and it’s such a pleasure to support other folks who are choosing to be something other than being an employee.
When I’m not corresponding with you about bookkeeping, you can find me on stage, performing as a singer-songwriter under the name Anna Diem, teaching kids music, or puttering around my house in Portland, OR.
